Brighton College

Value: £2m
Timescale: 37 Weeks

Following on from the successful completion of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse theatre, Virtus were appointed to carry out the construction and restoration works to the clock tower of this 19th century college building.

The clock tower was originally designed by Sir Thomas Graham Jackson in the 1800s in an effort to complement previous works on the College site by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The original plans for the front façade of the building included an impressive central bell tower which was never completed due to funding difficulties.

The re-creation of the tower required the installation of a bespoke clock to match the original 19th century designs. In the heart of Brighton and with the college resuming normal working hours, the logistical challenges were prevalent. The internals of the college were also refurbished.
